Bra Size Myths Our Fit Advisors Hear Every Week

SHAPE seamless bra and panty summer bundle in mixed colours

The short answer: Tighter does not mean slimmer, a wire does not create lift, and the size you wore at 16 is not a fact about you today. These are the myths we hear most at our fitting rooms.

'Tight porlei slim dekhabe' - this one comes up at almost every fitting. It is the opposite: a bra that is too tight pushes tissue out at the sides and creates bulges. The right fit is smooth.

Myth 1: Tighter is slimmer

A too-tight band compresses the ribcage but displaces tissue above and below, creating the look of bulges under and over the band. A well-fitted band holds the bust in the cup, not out of it. The smooth line comes from the right size, not from pulling tighter.

Myth 2: Wires create lift

Wires frame the cup and separate the bust, but they do not lift. The band tension and the cup structure do that. This is why SHAPE's wireless, seamless bras still support: the band does the work.

Myth 3: Your size never changes

Weight, hormones, pregnancy, medication and time all change your size. If you have not been measured in more than a year, you are wearing a guess, not a size. A fitting takes five minutes.

Myth 4: All bras should be hand-washed

Ideal, but not always realistic. If you use a machine, put the bra in a mesh bag, use cold water, and skip the dryer. Never wring a bra. Most SHAPE bras are nylon-spandex and handle a gentle cycle well.

Myth 5: Sleeping in a bra prevents sagging

There is no clinical evidence for this. Sleeping in a bra is a comfort choice, not a medical one. If you prefer support at night, a light bralette is more comfortable than a day bra.

The Seamless Contour Bra shows how a wireless, seamless bra gives shape and support through cup structure and band tension alone.

Questions women ask us

Does going braless cause sagging?

There is no conclusive evidence either way. Sagging is mostly about genetics, age and gravity, not about whether you wore a bra. Wear one for comfort and support, not out of fear.

Should I wear the same bra two days in a row?

Better not. Elastic needs about 24 hours to recover its shape. Rotating between two or three bras extends the life of each one.

Is padding bad for my breasts?

No. Padding is a shaping layer, not a compression layer. It does not affect breast tissue. Choose the padding level you are comfortable with.
