Why Two Women With the Same Measurements Leave With Different Bras

The short answer: Two measurements give you a size, not an answer. Two women with identical numbers can need different bras because their breast shape differs, and because one wants a smaller line under a silk suit while the other wants lift for a sixteen-hour day. Size, shape and purpose are three separate questions.

You tell a friend your size, she buys the same bra, and it does not work on her. Then one of you concludes that the bra is bad, or that something is odd about your body. Neither is true. A size is where a fitting starts, not where it ends.

The three questions behind every recommendation

  1. What are your two measurements? Underbust and bust. This gives the size.
  2. What is your breast shape? Fuller at the top or the bottom, close together or wide apart, even or uneven. This decides the style.
  3. What do you need it to do? Disappear under georgette, hold through a long day, make the line smaller, work under a deep neckline. This decides which of the suitable styles you actually buy.

Skip any one of the three and you get a bra that fits but is wrong.

Same size, three different answers

She needs The style Why
A smaller line under fitted clothes Mesh Minimizer Bra Higher cut with mesh panels, built to reduce the projected line.
Lift and coverage for a long day Sure Cover Bra Full coverage with a wide underband. Wire does not lift; structure does.
Almost nothing, in the heat Seamless Air Bra The lightest thing we make, with a smooth bonded edge.
Shape when the bust is smaller Sure Cover Bra or Plus Size Sculpting Bra A smaller bust needs heavier padding to hold shape, not a smaller size.

Where shape changes the answer most

If your breasts sit wide apart and point outward, a plunge spreads them further and a centring style brings them in. If they are fuller at the bottom, a moulded cup keeps the top from gaping. If one side is larger, you fit the larger side and use the removable pad on the smaller one.

None of this is visible in a measurement. It is visible in a mirror, in ten minutes, with someone looking.

What this means for buying online

It means a size on its own is not enough to order confidently, which is why we would rather measure you on video first than have you guess. Most styles run M to 3XL, with core styles reaching 5XL. Band-and-cup styles come in bands 34 to 44, cups A to DD. Between sizes on a seamless style, go up one.

Questions women ask us

My friend and I are the same size. Why does hers not fit me?

Because shape and purpose are different. Same band and cup, different breast shape, different bra.

So is my size useless?

Not at all. It narrows a whole wall down to a handful. It just does not pick between them.

Can you tell my shape over a message?

Partly. We can ask the right questions and narrow it a long way. A store fitting is still the most accurate.

Do I have to buy on the day?

No. The fitting is free and private, and you never have to buy. Plenty of women come in, get measured, and go away to think.
